In Brazil, the unprecedented surge of dengue fever cases has more than doubled and is  expected to reach into the millions. It has potentially killed thousands of people. 

Several of Brazil’s most populous states have declared health emergencies in the past month just ahead of carnival season as rising global temperatures and heavy rains brought outbreaks of the tropical disease spread by the Aedes aegypti mosquito.

The Sydney police confirmed the stabbing of Bishop Mar Mari Emmanuel on Monday 15^th April 2024 whiles he was saying mass at the Assyrian Christ the Good Shepherd church in Wakeley just after 7pm local time.

This incident follows two serious stabbing incidents in as many days in Sydney.The police after watching the footage of the livestreamed mass, dedided to treat it as a terrorist attack. Acording to Chris Minnns, the premier of new South Wales, said the decision was taken late Monday night, the night of the incident and it was validated by the police minister. “ A strike force had been established to investigate the incident, Karen Webb, the NSW police commissioner said.

Gunmen attacked worshippers at prayer and killed at least 15 people and injured two others in the village of Essakane in the Catholic Diocese of Dori, in Burkina Faso in what seemed to be a “terrorist attack”.

Information gathered revealed that no terrorist group has claimed responsibility for the attack. According to a church official, the gunmen were suspected to be Islamic militants.

As at 2020, the Global Prison Trends recorded over 11 million people held in prison worldwide. The reports states that from the year 2000 to 2014, there has been 84% increase in the number of life sentence. The numbers in the US records is about 206,268 serving life with parole out of the 1.4 million prison population in the US.
